Anbiya Food

Following the miraculous birth granted to his aging parents Zechariah and his wife, Allah raised a noble and deeply revered prophet: John (Yahya), peace be upon him. Named specifically by Allah before his birth—a name never given to anyone before him—Yahya grew up to become an embodiment of absolute purity, profound spiritual wisdom, and unwavering moral courage.
Early Wisdom and Divine Blessings
From his earliest childhood, Yahya was blessed by Allah with profound intellect, deep emotional sensitivity, and divine grace. While other children his age played, young Yahya possessed a mature, reflective soul dedicated to understanding spiritual truths.
Regarding his unique character and upbringing, the Quran records the divine instruction given to him: “O John, take the Scripture with determination.” And Allah bestowed upon him wisdom while yet a boy, along with affection from His presence and absolute purity (zakah). He was righteous, dutiful to his parents, and never arrogant or rebellious against the commands of his Creator.
A Life of Extreme Asceticism and Righteousness
As he matured into manhood, Yahya chose a life of deep simplicity, humility, and asceticism. He spent much of his time in the wilderness, valleys, and countryside away from worldly temptations, fasting, praying, and contemplating the majesty of the universe. His clothing was rough, and his food consisted simply of what nature provided, focusing entirely on the purification of the soul and the pursuit of the Hereafter.
Despite his solitary, contemplative nature, Yahya was deeply compassionate toward humanity. When people sought his guidance, he addressed them with powerful, moving sermons that touched their hearts, urging them to abandon sin, practice charity, return to sincere monotheism, and prepare for the ultimate judgment of Allah.
Standing for Truth and Moral Integrity
Yahya’s primary mission was to uphold the divine laws of the Torah and prepare the way for the coming of the prophetic mission of his cousin, Jesus (Isa), peace be upon them. He fearlessly commanded what was right and forbade what was wrong, never compromising the truth for the sake of worldly power or popular approval.
When the ruler of the time attempted to violate sacred moral laws by entering into an unlawful marriage, Yahya stood as an unyielding wall of moral defense, publicly denouncing the transgression and refusing to condone corruption. Though his principled stand ultimately led to his arrest and martyrdom at a young age, Yahya faced his fate with absolute courage, remaining steadfast in his loyalty to Allah until his last breath.
The Divine Peace in Life and Death
Allah honored Yahya’s extraordinary sacrifice and pure life with eternal peace and divine recognition. The Quran highlights his unique status by recording Allah’s specific peace upon him: “And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive.”
The story of John the Baptist remains an eternal beacon of moral courage, reminding humanity that true honor lies in righteousness, purity of heart, and an unwavering commitment to truth, regardless of the personal cost.
