Following the ministries of Zechariah and John, Allah raised one of His most monumental and miraculous messengers to guide the Children of Israel: Jesus (Isa), peace be upon him. Honored in the Quran as a Word from Allah and a Spirit proceeding from Him, his entire life—from his miraculous birth to his ascension—was a profound sign of divine power and mercy.
The Miraculous Birth
Jesus was born to the exceptionally pious, chaste, and devoted virgin Mary (Maryam), who had dedicated her life to the worship of Allah in the sanctuary of Jerusalem. One day, while she was secluded in privacy, the Angel Gabriel (Jibril) appeared before her in the form of a perfect man.
Frightened, Mary sought refuge in Allah, but the angel reassured her, announcing that Allah had chosen to bless her with a holy son. Mary asked in astonishment how such a thing could occur since no man had ever touched her. The angel replied: “Thus says your Lord; ‘It is easy for Me—and We will make him a sign to the people and a mercy from Us.’ And it is a matter [already] decreed.”
Mary submitted to the divine will, and miraculously conceived Jesus without human intervention. When she gave birth to him in a remote place beneath a palm tree, her community accused her harshly out of ignorance. Defending herself through divine instruction, Mary pointed to the newborn infant in the cradle.
To the absolute shock of the accusers, baby Jesus miraculously spoke out loud, declaring: “Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet. And He has made me blessed wherever I am and has enjoined upon me prayer and zakah as long as我还 remain alive.”
Prophethood, Miracles, and Compassion
As Jesus matured into manhood, Allah officially commissioned him as a prophet and messenger to the Children of Israel, confirming the truth of the Torah while bringing a new scripture, the Gospel (Injeel), filled with light and guidance.
To prove his prophethood to a skeptical society steeped in materialism, Allah granted Jesus breathtaking, undeniable physical miracles. Jesus spoke of these miracles to his people: “I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allah. And I cure the blind [from birth] and the leper, and I give life to the dead – by permission of Allah.”
Beyond physical healings, Jesus’s ministry was defined by profound spiritual revival, deep compassion for the poor, the elevation of moral virtues, and calling humanity back to the sincere, unadulterated worship of the One True Allah.
The Opposition and the Divine Rescue
Despite his clear miracles and loving message of peace and righteousness, the corrupt religious leaders and ruling authorities among the Children of Israel rejected him, plotting aggressively against his life and seeking to crucify him.
When their conspiracy reached its peak, Allah executed His divine plan of ultimate protection. The enemies attempted to capture and crucify Jesus, but Allah intervened directly, raising Jesus up alive to the heavens in body and soul, and casting his likeness upon another individual who was taken instead. As the Quran explicitly confirms: “And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them… Rather, Allah raised him to Himself. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.”
The story of Jesus stands as an eternal symbol of divine grace, miraculous power, and the ultimate triumph of truth, while pointing forward to his prophesied return in the future.
