The Quran and authentic Sunnah do not mention specific detailed cooking recipes or exact ingredients used by Prophet Noah (peace be upon him). However, in Islamic folklore and regional tradition, there is a famous historical narrative associated with the food prepared aboard the Ark during the Great Flood.
The Traditional Story of the Ark’s Final Meal:
According to popular historical accounts, as the long voyage of the Ark came to an end and supplies began to dwindle, Prophet Noah instructed everyone on board to bring whatever leftover grains, legumes, and dried fruits remained in their stores. They combined all these different ingredients into a single large pot and cooked them together to feed the survivors as they finally disembarked upon Mount Judi.
This historical tradition gave rise to a famous dish known as “Noah’s Pudding” or “Aşure” (commonly known in the region as Ashura).
🍲 Traditional Recipe for “Noah’s Ark” Mixed Grain Porridge
Basic Ingredients:
- Whole hulled wheat (the primary base).
- Assorted basic legumes/grains (such as a small amount of cooked chickpeas or lentils).
- Dried fruits (such as raisins, chopped dried figs, or apricots).
- Natural sweetener (honey or sugar).
- A pinch of cinnamon or crushed nuts for garnish.
Preparation Steps:
- Boiling the Main Grain: Wash and soak the whole wheat, then boil it in water until the kernels burst and the water thickens naturally with starch.
- Combining Ingredients: Add the other available grains or pre-cooked legumes (like chickpeas) to the simmering wheat.
- Sweetening and Infusing: Mix in the dried fruits to provide natural sweetness, add honey or sugar to taste, and let the mixture simmer on low heat until it thickens into a hearty, cohesive porridge.
- Serving: Ladle the pudding into bowls, garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon and nuts, and serve warm or chilled.
